Backwaters, these vessels are built entirely with out nails. Plants of jackwood are joined together and coir rope and coated with caustic black resin made from boiled cashew kenels. With careful maintenance they last for generations. Today widely and appropriately called Luxury Houseboats, they carry furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for angling. As you cruise down the canal you can see morning newspaper and mail delivery by boat, vendors in boat paddle from house to house selling everyday provisions like rice, vegetables, oil, kerosene etc. with hundreds of quacking ducks around. Also you can see village activities, fisherman's activities and see old beautiful temples, churches and old fashioned Kerala.
Day 01: Cochin - Alleppey
On your arrival at Cochin by train or flight on the 1st day of the Houseboat Tour Itinerary with India Travel Guides, the tour representative will be there to welcome and escort you to your luxury rice barge at Alleppey in Kerala. Look up to the beautiful sky as you float on your personalized houseboat on the Kerala backwaters. Disembark for a little while to visit the Krishnapuram Palace, Kuttanad, Pathiramanal, Vijaya Beach Park, Sea-View Park and the beaches in alleppey before going back to the folds of your comfortable houseboat for the night.
Day 02: Alleppey - Kumarakom
Wake up to the gentle lapping of the backwaters and enjoy a leisurely breakfast aboard the houseboat. Reach Kumarakom and go on sightseeing tours to Chavara Bhavan, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Champakulam Church, Karumadikuttan and Pathiramanal. Come back to the houseboat for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Kovalam - Thenmala
Arrive in style at Thenmala on your houseboat to visit the various tourist attraction such as Palaruvi Water Falls, Rubber Plantations and Oil Palm Plantations, Boardwalk and Sway Bridge, Sculpture Garden and the Shenduruney Wild Life Sanctuary. Come back to the houseboat for one last night aboard it.
Day 04: Thenmala -Thanneermukkom
As the houseboat floats into Thanneermukkom, bid adieu to it as there will be a car waiting to take you back to the airport or railway station for your onward journey
